Frequently Asked Questions
Will Audi-A2DP work in my car?
Audi-A2DP is for Audi models 2008 and later that have the 3rd generation MMI (MMI 3G) with Navigation. Both MMI 2G and MMI 3G models have a proprietary connection port in the glove box, and it is important to note that Audi-A2DP requires MMI 3G. It will not work with MMI 2G. Please see below.
How can I tell whether my car has MMI 2G or 3G?
Your car has MMI 3G if it has a control knob that has a center joystick (a thumb groove) as shown in the picture in the middle below.
Will my phone work with Audi-A2DP?
Audi-A2DP is compatible with all A2DP stereo Bluetooth-enabled devices including iPad, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4G, iPhone 5, iPod Touch, Android phones and Windows Phone.
Doesn't my car have Bluetooth already?
MMI 3G supports only the Bluetooth Headset profile that is limited to hands-free voice calls. It does not support audio or music streaming. This functionality requires the Bluetooth A2DP profile, which Audi-A2DP adds to your car.
What is A2DP?
A2DP stands for Advanced Audio Distribution Profile. This profile defines how high quality audio can be streamed from one device to another over a (wireless) Bluetooth connection.
How do I install Audi-A2DP?
Installation is as simple as connecting the device to the MMI port in your glove box. See here.
Can I use the on-wheel volume controls?
Audi-A2DP sends high quality audio to your car's built-in speakers. Because volume is still controlled via MMI, you can use the volume controls on both the dashboard and the steering wheel, including mute functionality.
Can I still use hands-free calling built-in to Audi MMI 3G?
Audi-A2DP works in tandem with the built-in Bluetooth hands-free voice calling functionality of your car. You will still be able to make and receive calls as you do today, including voice-activated dialing. Listening to music over Audi-A2DP does not affect this functionality. If you make or receive a call while Audi-A2DP is active, the audio is temporarily switched to the phone call, and is automatically switched back when the call is ended.
Can I control my music through MMI?
Audi-A2DP uses your car's audio system so the will be able to use the MMI volume up/down and mute controls on the dashboard and on your steering wheel. You will be able to access other controls such as play, pause and stop directly on your phone. Because you're no longer required to put your phone in the glove box, you will have easy access to them.
Can I stream music using the Pandora app on my iPhone/iPad?
Yes, you can.
When does my phone disconnect from Audi-A2DP?
The disconnecting occurs if the phone goes out-of-range (max. 30 feet) or MMI powers off the receiver (happens sometime after the engine is turned off).
Does Audi-A2DP auto-connect?
It may vary for different phones, but in our experience, there is no auto-reconnect once the phone has been disconnected. This is actually desirable in some scenarios, where you may be connected to another device inside your home, and you don’t want it to auto-connect to your car when you get in range.
What are the advantages of Audi-A2DP over the standard iPod MMI cable?
Audi-A2DP is a wireless solution that gives you the freedom to never have to physically connect your phone or iPod Touch to the MMI system. Because your Bluetooth device will be wirelessly connected, you can still control your music and playlists through your device. In addition, the added wireless freedom means you will be far less likely to forget your phone in the car.
How many devices can I pair with Audi-A2DP?
You can pair a total of 8 different Bluetooth devices.
Do I have to charge the device?
The device is powered directly through the MMI port and never needs recharging. It is always ready to connect as long as the MMI system is on.
Will the device use up my car's battery?
The power to the device is managed by the MMI system itself.
What's in the box?
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! Before placing an order, there are a few things to consider:
- We offer a flat shipping rate of $25 (USD) to 190 countries ($20 for Canada) where United States Postal Service (USPS) has service. The shipping cost is non-refundable.
- Your order may be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees once the shipment reaches your country. By ordering from us, you accept that such charges, if any, will be your responsibility.
- Shipping times depend on the destination. Customs clearance procedures may cause additional delays although this is rare.
- Audi-A2DP requires MMI 3G with Navigation to work. Due to the differing definitions of what MMI 3G is, we urge you to verify that you have MMI 3G as described at the top of this page.
What's the difference between 'Brand New' and 'Open Box'?
From time to time, we offer open-box items at a discount to our customers. Availability depends on returned items from customers who have Audi MMI 2G, or 3G without navigation. When available, these items are listed above the "Buy Now" button and are clearly labeled "open-item". Unlike "Brand new", which comes in never-opened retail packaging, open-box contains the same items except the original packaging. There is no restocking fee on returned open box items.
Is Audi-A2DP an official Audi accessory?
Audi-A2DP is made by OhZee Creative, LLC as a custom Audi accessory. OhZee Creative, LLC is not affiliated with Audi.
What is your return policy?
